What the government aren't telling you...

The government are tightening up on covid restrictions again, but what they are not mentioning are the natural ways to keep your immunity functioning well at this time. We are here to give you that little reminder. Your first line of defence against any virus is to choose a healthy lifestyle. Yes, we know it sounds boring but, rest assured, it does work. There is not one factor of a healthy lifestyle that you can focus on to help your immune system - everything goes hand in hand. Your immune system is exactly that - a system, not a single unit so it cannot technically be boosted. However, all elements can be strengthened to run efficiently in order to fight off diseases.

6 simple ways to build your immune system:

  • Sleep well. When you sleep well you heal well. Sleep is one of the most important health behaviors for optimal immune function, mental and physical health, and quality of life.

  • Focus on getting your nutrients from a balanced diet with fruits and lots of vegetables.

  • Exercise regularly – At this time you may not feel like entering a gym or going outside in the cold weather. We, at Sweat in the City Team Fit can keep you active and make you sweat from the same room you watch Eastenders! Contact us to trial a class.

  • Eat more plant foods and healthy fats.

  • Drink at least 2 litres of water each day and minimise your alcohol intake.

  • Minimise stress by meditating, taking part in an exercise class, reading a book, relaxing in the bath, watch a comedy show or even practice simple breathing exercises.

All of these can support immune system function by giving it enough fuel and rest. If you haven't already, making these lifestyle changes will help you in the long term so that your immune system has the best chance to defeat all those pesky pathogens.
